Cosmas

User guide

Docs

The short version of everything you need to get going. Details live in the app itself.

First run

Install Cosmas from the download page and start it from the Start menu.

  • It looks for your Medal folders by itself (Videos\Medal, X:\Medal) and starts reading recordings in the background.
  • If you used Cosmas (Kronikář) before from a portable copy, the first start finds that catalogue and asks whether to copy it in. The original is never changed.
  • The interface is in English, or Czech when Windows is set to Czech or Slovak. Settings → Language switches it.

Recording folders

  • Settings → Recording folders: add any folder with videos, for example from OBS or ShadowPlay. Subfolders are included.
  • Rules decide what is a clip and what is a full recording; every game can have default audio tracks.
  • Under each game in the left strip you can add the servers you played on, with the period. Videos are assigned to a server by date.

Audio tracks are toggles: scroll on one to change its volume, right-click for a slider or to play only that track.

Events and characters

  • Events form a tree; drag to rearrange. An event has real and in-game dates, a place, tags, characters with roles, a write-up and a journal of dated entries. “Suggest from recordings” groups unsorted videos into game nights.
  • In the text editor, @ mentions a character (or creates one), Ctrl+V pastes a screenshot.
  • Characters have a profile with portrait, status, player, biography and relationships. Edit opens the form; Ctrl/Shift + click in the list edits several at once.
  • Factions and houses have a coat of arms and members with roles; places have an owner and a parent place. A character without its own colour takes its first faction’s.

Sign-in and sync

  1. Settings → Web chronicle → Sign in with Discord. Your browser opens; sign in and click Allow. If the browser can’t return to the app, type the code shown instead.
  2. Sync now, or tick Sync after the app starts. Changes go both ways; when both sides changed the same record you choose which one wins.
  3. The Share button on a character, faction, place, event or moment sets Only me, Anyone with the link or Public.
  4. Use on Discord in a character’s form puts it on the community bot.
  5. Sign out / disconnect this device revokes the device’s access. You can also disconnect devices on the web.

The web version at gingygames.com/kosmas/app opens the same chronicle in a browser.

Test data

Want to try something without cluttering your chronicle? Mark records as test data (⋯ → Mark as test record). They are hidden unless Settings → Test data → Show test data is on, they never sync or get published, and Delete test data removes them all after making a backup.

Updates

Cosmas checks for a new version and tells you when one is out; it can download the installer, verify its SHA-256 and run it for you. Your data is kept. You can always download the latest installer from the download page and run it over the old version. What changed is on the changelog.

Backups

  • Everything you made is in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Kronikar. Settings → Catalog data shows the exact path and opens the folder. Back that folder up; your videos are separate.
  • Close Cosmas before copying the folder, so the catalogue file is complete.
  • Synced records are also on the web, but local-only data (transcripts, thumbnails, settings, letters you didn’t sync) lives only in that folder.

Getting help

Ask on the community Discord, or use the feedback form. In the desktop app, the feedback form can attach the app log for you.
